Let us start our discussion about different types of content with Website Content. Since it is a huge topic that can’t be covered in a single post, I will do a series on it.
Today’s topic of discussion – Basics of Website Content
In this Internet Age, your website is the first point of contact between you and your prospective client. It creates the first impression about you, your company, and your brand. It is a crucial element of your company’s marketing plan. Your website content stays on the internet for a really long time. The content should communicate your message well. Do not compromise on it. Invest in it properly.
The website content must address the questions:
What does your customer want to know? What information is she looking for?
What is your customer trying to achieve? How can your product help her get that?
What does she really care about? What matters most to her? How is your product related to that?
Depending on how you choose to answer these questions, you can decide the Purpose of your website:
Educate, create awareness – for example, Writing Stylus – educates readers about content.
Information distribution – for example, Technorati
Sell – for example, Amazon – an e-commerce website
Engage – for example, Chris Brogan
Online portfolio/brochure – for example, Sai Engineers
Online portal – for example, ednexa – education portal
Online community – for example, prayormeditate, myhometownlink
The content of each purpose is different – its tone, voice, choice of words is different. You have to carefully identify the purpose and choose the right form of content accordingly.
Can you think of any other purpose? Any other basic information that you want to share? Feel free to do so in the comments below…
