Is really a sales team only responsible for new client acquisition in outsourcing companies?

I have experience to work with small and medium scale outsourcing companies (IT, Engineering etc) and my lot of friends are also working with small and medium scale outsourcing companies in different roles in sales department. I have spoken to everybody and they say in every outsourcing company Inside Sales, field Sales or entire sales team is only responsible for loosing or getting the client.


Is it really true?




I think at initial phase of sales cycle, Sales Guy (or Sales Team) singly plays a very important role to generate interest and create good impression about the company but once a company gets a Pilot (Trial) project then project team is equally responsible for closing the deal, because delivery of pilot (trial) project as per clients expectation is very important for sales. And if it will not be delivered as per clients expectations then sales guy (or Sales Team) cannot close the deal, reasons can be communication, misunderstanding, timely delivery etc.


So Project Team & Sales Guy (or Sales Team) is mutually responsible for new client acquisition.
