April 7th, 2007 (@BITS, Pilani):
Like many other distinguished people at the auditorium , A man walked onto the stage to congratulate me after I won an International Business Plan Competition there.
He says” Hi Nitish, I am Sarathbabu, an IIM A grad, having my own food king named venture. I am also an entrepreneur just like what you are going to become one day.””Congratulations on your success!!”
Me: “Thanks a lot!” And I move on accepting congratulations from people all over enjoying the moment of my success that day.
Later at the Dinner hosted by the VC, Pilani, I met this guy again. This time I could talk to him more freely. He told me his past, his present and what he thinks of his future. I was truly inspired by this guy.I have met lot of entrepreneurial minds in my life till now , but the kind of “Rags to Riches“ story this person told me is hard to forget.
He was struggling with his business at that time but was determined to succeed.
We both exchanged contacts and wished each other good luck in life.
Fast Forward to Today
(1 year later):
I was just going through the rediff.com news section and I found an article on Sarathbabu.
Many of you might have heard of a story of an IIM Ahmadabad graduate who refused several high profile job offers from various MNCs after his graduation in IIM A. He preferred to start his own enterprise -- Foodking Catering Service -- in Ahmedabad. He was inspired by his mother who once sold idlis on the pavements of Chennai, to educate him and his siblings. It was a dream come true, when Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy lit the traditional lamp and inaugurated Sarathbabu's enterprise.
Today , I came to know through the article in rediff.com that he has overcome his initial struggle in business and the person who started with 20 lakh loan is today having annual turnover of 3.2 crores and growing very fast.Initially, his business was suffering losses of 2000 per day but he never gave up. At the time when I met him in pilani, he had got a new contract at pilani and was very optimistic.
His dream , VC,Pilani told me at that time, is to generate 20,000 jobs in 2 years. That hasn’t been possible in planned time limit but i am sure with such dedication and hard work, someday he will surely achieve this target.
This story has inspired me a lot and I hope it inspires many of you too.
My Best Wishes!!!
This time my congratulations to him!!!
