Good understanding of object oriented practices using PHP and  also the MVC(model-view-controller) framework.

In our application we use codeiginiter that uses an MVC framework strictly.

Good knowledge of MySQL database, in respect of designing database schema, writing optimized queries.Fair understanding normalization and indexing in MySQL.

Good experience with third party APIs(including facebook,twitter) and connection using CURL to the API's.Authentication protocols like oAUTH. Being able to write independent cron jobs that will run periodically to update application data from the APIs. Good understanding of JSON and XML datatypes.

Value add: if the person had prior experience in Node.js and schema-less databases like MongoDB or CassandraDB. Performance optimization engines like memcache, akamai cache. Worked with a content delivery API(CDN) to render images and static content(CSS/JS) on the site.
